A Samoan hotel is working against the clock to upgrade its eco-lodges in preparation for the arrival of King Charles on his Commonwealth tour.

The four-and-a-half-star hotel has secured £85,000 in government funding to renovate its properties ahead of the royal visit in October. Last week, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the king would travel to Australia and Samoa.

Due to his cancer diagnosis, plans to visit New Zealand and Fiji were cancelled on doctor’s advice. Recent Samoa Hotel Reviews are mixed, with some visitors claiming the facilities are “dilapidated and falling apart” or that the furnishings and bedding are “musty”.

The Samoa Hotel is said to feature private villas and a tree-lined pool, with a strong focus on sustainability. It comes after Prince Harry suffered a fresh Invictus Games blow in the wake of the Pat Tillman Award controversy after the foundation’s CEO announced his departure.

Dominic Reid, who was responsible for the foundation’s global growth, retired from Invictus after 10 years and six competitions on three continents.

He has been outspoken since leaving his post after nearly 10 years at the helm of the organisation. Following his departure, Mr Reid took to Forces News to express his admiration for the work the Invictus Games has done to support veterans since its inception.

He confirmed that it was a “privilege” to take on the role, but felt it was “the right time” to move on. Speaking to Forces News, Mr Reid stressed: “It’s definitely the community that’s been built. It’s a fantastic closed community and it’s growing at 40% a year, which is phenomenal, internationally it’s grown to include friends and families and that’s a vitally important part of it too. The community is what we’ve achieved. It’s had a healing effect.”

He called the organisation a “wonderful place” but stressed that a “new perspective” was now needed to usher in the next chapter of the Invictus Games.
