Papa differences: Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for carrying 100 kg papa differences | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: A local court has sentenced a drug dealer to 10 years in prison after he was found in possession of 100 kg of poppy seeds. The bench of Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Singh Bajwa also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year. On September 25, 2021, the Sadar Jagraon police registered a case against Gurpreet Singh and Prabhdeep Singh, both of Kotla Raika in Baghapurana, Moga and Chatturvedi Sharma of Aklyian Jalal in Bathinda, under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. According to the prosecution, on that date, a police team was stationed at Akhara village to keep an eye on suspicious activities related to drug dealers when ASI Randhir Singh received a tip-off that Gurpreet Singh was travelling on a truck towards Jagraon. Acting on the information, the police set up a checkpoint at the canal bridge in Dangia. They saw the Ashok Leyland truck approaching from Khosa Kaunke village. The police flagged down the truck and the driver, who identified himself as Gurpreet Singh, was forced to get out. The police found four plastic bags hidden under a black sheet behind the driver’s seat in the cabin and recovered a total of 100 kg of poppy husks from the bags. Gurpreet Singh is said to have sourced it cheaply from outside Punjab and supplied it to villages around Jagraon. During interrogation, the names of other suspects emerged.
