Our Division 1 and 3 final teams are already known, but the composition of the final campaigns is still uncertain after round 13 of our senior women’s competition.

Heidelberg Golf Club Division 1

Heidelberg achieved consecutive wins for the first time since round 9 after leading Dare to be 1 with 32 points at Warringal Park. The Tigers finished the game with 14 scoring shots and could have won by more had they not been so inaccurate. However, they still managed to hold the Falcons scoreless in the 4.10 (34) to 0.2 (2) victory. Isabella Rowe made it her second appearance in her team’s best in the last three games after another solid performance from the home side. Ella Norris also impressed for Heidelberg, while Talia Atkinson and Karly McNiece performed admirably for the Falcons.

Saint Mary recovered from the defeat Diamond Creek Ladies 1 with 15 points at Plenty Park Oval in a huge boost to their minor premiership hopes. The Burra were outstanding in the first half, going 4.5 to 0.0 in the first two quarters, which proved vital in the eventual 5.8 (38) to 3.5 (23) victory. Another excellent performance from Charlotte Karafillis helped St Mary’s move within a game of top of the ladder Creekers with a round to play, while Sarah Johnston finished with two goals. Stephanie Rozario and Simone Secombe were standouts for the home side.

Cleaning Melbourne Division 2

Lower abundance achieved their 10th victory of the 2024 season, comfortably beating Green neighborhood with 85 points at Anthony Beale Reserve. The Bears did most of the damage in the first half, holding a 70-point lead at the main break before winning 14.11 (95) to 1.4 (10). Shae Audley, Milla Fereday and Kyla Parry all produced three goals in key attacking roles, while ruck Bree Unthank dominated against her former team. Sheridan Blizzard was again superb for the Boro despite the loss, also scoring her team’s only goal of the game.

It is now eight consecutive games without a loss for Ivanhoewho was responsible for Thomastown in a huge 80-point win at Ivanhoe Park. After leading by 26 points at half-time, the Ivies put their foot down in the second half, scoring nine of the last 10 goals of the game to run out 13.10 (88) to 1.2 (8) winners, almost earning them a top-three finish. Emily Bisogni made it a third consecutive mention in her team’s best after a superb performance, while Federica Frew finished with an equal season-high five goals up front. Cara Mazzarella and Chiara Nardo did everything they could for the Bears.

The Fitzroy stars handed over West Preston-Lakeside their first loss since joining the Division 2 competition in Round 5, after a very impressive 35-point win. After a competitive start to the match, the Stars broke away in the second term, leading by 25 points at half-time and 33 points at three-quarters, before running out winners by 6.6 (42) to 1.1 (7). The Stars’ seventh triumph of the 2024 season was led by the likes of Stephanie Briggs, Amina Keegan and Leah Seeto, while Molly McErlain was the Roosters’ best.

Whittlesea reports Montmorency-2 for the second time in 2024, this time with 31 points at the Whittlesea Showgrounds. The Eagles held the Magpies to just one point for the afternoon, the lowest total they have conceded against an opponent all year, en route to a 4.8 (32) to 0.1 (1) victory on their home ground. Amy Fallen had a superb fortnight, finishing as her team’s best player for the match. Tayla Wood also got on the scoreboard for the first time this season, being the Eagles’ only multiple goal kicker.

Merenda have given themselves every chance of a final place after a huge victory with 91 points on Dare to be 2 at Waterview Recreation Reserve. The Demons dominated from start to finish, piling up seven majors in both halves to end the match on the right side of the 14.10 (94) to 0.3 (3) scoreline. The star of the show was Bernadette Azzopardi, who finished with seven of her own goals in an excellent match within 50. Jenelle Bertoni assisted with four majors while Guilia Ceravolo finished as the team’s best for the afternoon. Shawan Brown played well for the Falcons.

NFNL Division 3 Women

Diamond Creek Ladies 2 an end to a four-game losing streak with a 27-point comeback win over Wall at Plenty Park Oval. The Magpies led for the first three quarters before a huge six-goal final spell saw the Creekers turn an 11-point deficit into a 7.6 (48) to 3.3 (21) victory after three quarters. Key to the home side’s victory was the trio of Laura Di Domenica, Elly-May Dreier and Kayley Reid, who each played a key role in the final result. Ava Borg was a solid contributor for the Magpies and was one of three goal kickers.

A third win in a row brings Panton Hill in the box seat for a top three finish after an impressive 20-point victory over Hurst Bridge at AE Cracknell Reserve. The Redbacks started well, leading by 14 points at the quarter, before cutting that margin to 10 at half-time. The home side scored two goals to one in the second half to secure a 5.8 (38) to 2.6 (18) victory. Bridie Groves was again brilliant for Panton Hill, while Teagan Sheldon was superb in defence for the winning side. Renee Brain and Kristy Steven played well for the Bridges.

North Heidelberg achieved a great victory ahead of their first finals campaign, by Eppen with 67 points at Shelley Street Reserve. The Blues were held scoreless by a Bulldogs team who scored at least two goals in each of the first three terms en route to a 9.13 (67) to 0.0 (0) victory. Ellouise Bishop is one to start to find some form for the finals campaign with another solid performance, while Teresa Cassar finished with three goals. Michaela Barr was a standout for Epping.

South Morang returned from the break and had no trouble beating Laurimar with 40 points at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. A 4.3 to 0.0 opening period set the tone for the Lions’ 6.10 (46) to 1.0 (6) triumph, their eighth win of the 2024 season. The triumph came on the back of another incredible display from Devony Hoare, who has now made seven consecutive appearances in her team’s best, while Hayley Ball was her team’s only multiple goalkeeper. Naomi Whalan and Isabella Zanussi did everything they could for the Power.
