Upfront sales are over for NBCUniversal, which reported “modest growth across its portfolio.” Sports was a winner, with sports digital seeing double digit growth over last year, and Hispanic sports ad spending up 20%. Entertainment & News was even with last year, while Peacock spend surged 40% over the past three years. “This past year, we focused every investment and innovation on driving media effectiveness for our clients,” said NBCU Ad and Partnership Chairman Mark Marshall. “Our engaging content provides the ultimate canvas for our advertisers to tell their brand stories to their consumers. And in this year’s upfront, NBCUniversal saw growth in advertising commitments across its portfolio in key business areas including strategic audiences, live programming, and streaming—demonstrating the value of our storytelling and the strength of our powerful tech stack to the marketplace.”

In its second-quarter earnings call last week, Netflix reported its ad-supported memberships grew 34% during the period compared to the same quarter last year. The streamer beat subscriber expectations with 277.65 million versus a forecast of 274.4 million. Revenue was about $9.6 billion, up 17% compared to the year-ago period, driven primarily by the increase in average paid memberships.

Optimum and Gray Media have agreed to a multi-year extension of their relationship. Optimum TV markets with Gray stations include Connecticut, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, Arkansas, West Virginia, California, Missouri, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, and Ohio. The extension also enables Optimum TV customers to continue to enjoy Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury games on Gray stations in their respective markets.

The Republican National Convention drew 25.38 million viewers on Thursday, its final night, across 14 networks from 10p-12:15a. That’s up from 23.81 million four years ago, and down from 32.2 million in 2016.

FOX News Channel delivered its highest-rated convention coverage in cable news history among primetime viewers on Thursday, delivering 9 million viewers and 1.6 in the 25-54 demo, with FOX Business Network’s combined simulcast. (FNC: 8.5 million P2+ and 1.5 million A25-54). From 10:30p-12a, FNC drew over 9.4 million viewers and 1.8 million among A25-54 during former President Donald Trump’s speech.

During the convention’s first two days, Newsmax averaged more than 600,000 total viewers, including 200,000 among A35-64 age range, in prime time.

Sports platform OutKick finished June with 5.9 total multiplatform unique visitors, up 7% versus May, and 21 million total multiplatform minutes, up 5% versus the prior month. The platform also saw 23 million total multiplatform views, according to Comscore.

Netflix’s VP of Ad Sales Peter Naylor is exiting the company. “Peter’s enthusiasm, industry knowledge and relationships have been invaluable in getting our advertising business off the ground. The industry veteran joined Netflix in 2022.
