How to file your Income Tax Return (ITR) 2024 via WhatsApp before July 31 deadline: A step-by-step method

ITR for assessment year 2024-25 (income earned in calendar year 2023) can be filed via WhatsApp through ClearTax, an online tax platform. This is a new option specifically designed for easier and faster filing, especially for gig workers over Rs 2 crore and people on basic income structures across India. Notably, the last date to file ITR is July 31.

You will need a few soft copies of documents before you start filing ITR 2024 online. Here are the few things you will need: PAN card, Aadhaar card, email address and bank account details (for refunds).

These are the steps you need to follow:

1. Send the text “Hello” on the WhatsApp number: +91 89512 62134 and save it with the name ClearTax on your phone

2. Choose your preferred language from the options: English, Hindi and Kannada

3. Enter your PAN card details by typing the PAN number or uploading a photo of your PAN

4. Now enter your Aadhaar number, email address and other personal details like your father’s name, date of birth, etc. as prompted on your screen

5. Verify your email address with a one-time password (OTP)

6. The AI ​​assistant guides you through the income data and deductions that apply to you

7. Once the information is collected, ClearTax will pre-fill your ITR form (usually ITR 1 or ITR 4 based on your income). You can view and edit all the details.

8. You can upload any required documents, such as investment certificates, if necessary

9. Proceed with secure payment for submitting expenses via WhatsApp, if applicable

10. Once the payment is made, you will receive a confirmation for your ITR filing
