2 Toledo men arrested after chase in Monroe County

Two Toledo men were arrested Sunday after leading police on a chase through Monroe County, officials said.

The 23-year-old and 18-year-old are being held in the Monroe County Jail pending charges of fleeing and eluding police and receiving and concealing stolen property, the county sheriff’s office said.

Police said they are not releasing the identities of the men until they appear in court. Officials also said additional charges and extradition to Ohio are pending.

According to detectives, troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol called Monroe County dispatch around 2:15 a.m. Sunday to report that they were pursuing a stolen white 2017 Toyota Corolla traveling north on Interstate 75 toward Michigan.

Police and Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle through Erie and LaSalle townships, authorities said. Officers used devices to deflate the vehicle’s tires and ended the pursuit near South Telegraph Road and Third Street in LaSalle Township, they said.

Police said they saw the passenger in the stolen vehicle throw a gun out of the car during the chase. Officers recovered the weapon and took it as evidence, they said.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the suspects or the incident should call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (734) 240-7568.
