Race number 14 of the 2024 Formula 1 season gets underway today, as the 20 drivers prepare to take on one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar: Spa, during the 80th edition of the Belgian Grand Prix.

As the second half of the record-breaking 24-race 2024 season continues with the fifth of seven consecutive races across Europe, pressure is mounting on the main contenders after three consecutive meetings produced surprise winners.

None of those winners were Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who is currently in his worst form for Red Bull in almost three years, finishing his last three races in fifth, second and fifth place respectively.

Mercedes and McLaren have both benefited from the reigning champions’ slump, with George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri taking the chequered flag in Austria, Britain and Hungary respectively. Piastri’s victory at the Hungaroring last weekend was the first of his career and saw him pass McLaren team-mate Lando Norris to claim top spot.

Norris, a Belgian, will surely hope to do better in his ‘home’ race, while an injured Verstappen is also determined to return to the winner’s circle as soon as possible. At Spa, anything is possible, setting the stage for a fantastic 14th race of the season.
