Barcelona mull sensational sale: Star midfielder in sights of Saudi and Qatari clubs

A stunning report from SPORT has confirmed that Barcelona have received offers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia for Ilkay Gundogan. As a result, the club are currently weighing up their options and have not ruled out the possibility of his departure.

Barcelona have been planning their approach to the summer transfer market for some time now, and while there are still many missing pieces, some progress has been made.

However, time is running out and the club has yet to announce a clear plan to make this happen. A crucial factor in this equation is the salary cap, which is dependent on players leaving.

Among the players mentioned are Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Ansu Fati and Raphinha. Of them, Raphinha is the only one who is on the verge of leaving, despite his reluctance. The others are sidelined due to injuries.

Gundogan is still in the picture

As a result, the club has been forced to look for alternatives within the squad, and the most suitable name they have found is Gundogan. The German international fits all the criteria to be one of the potential departures Barcelona are considering.

Reports from various media outlets have indicated that Barcelona have received two offers for Gundogan. The first offer came from Qatar, with Al Sadd being the interested club.

The second offer comes from Saudi Arabia. This is not the first time Saudi Arabia has shown interest in Gundogan, as he had the chance to sign for Al-Ittihad last summer before joining Barcelona.

Barcelona value Gundogan

Barcelona see Gundogan as an opportunity they may have missed, leading to more speculation about his possible departure. His transfer to the club was free of charge and his salary is substantial.

Despite this, he was one of Barcelona’s standouts last season. While this makes his departure an attractive option for the club, there is a major hurdle: the player’s own intentions.

Gundogan is determined to stay and is fully committed to Hansi Flick’s project. The two have maintained a strong relationship since their time together with the German national team.

For now, they are expected to discuss the situation further during the club’s tour of the United States.

Barring anything unexpected in the summer, Gundogan is likely to remain at Barcelona. His current contract runs until June 2025, with an option for a third season.
