Lucknow: Twenty-nine police officers, who allegedly abused their positions for years at various police stations in Mirzapur, Utah, have been suspended by the police chief concerned (SP).

They were suspended two days after 18 people, including 16 recruiters and two constables of the Uttar Pradesh police, were arrested for their alleged involvement in extortion of truck drivers on the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border.

The Mirzapur SP has launched this action following complaints of illegal extortion and assault on complainants at police stations against the suspended officers.

Earlier on Sunday, five police officers were suspended in Ahraura after a gang of diesel thieves was busted in the Baradih district.
