Pixel 9 may get an AI-powered Call Notes feature to record and transcribe phone calls

During its WWDC 2024 event, Apple introduced a brand new Apple Intelligence feature that would help iPhones record, transcribe, and summarize phone calls. It looks like Google has something similar in the works, coming to the upcoming Pixel 9 series.

According to tipster Dylan Roussel at X, Google is reportedly working on an AI-powered Call Notes feature. The tipster describes the Pixel 9 Call Notes feature as recording and transcribing calls, but made no mention of summarization. However, Google may be using the Gemini Nano’s powers to create summaries of call recordings.

Currently, on the Pixel 8 or 8a with the Gemini Nano enabled, you can use the Recorder app to record an actual conversation and get a full transcript, along with a summary of the content. This happens on-device, without an internet connection.

The upcoming Call Notes feature could therefore work with the same idea, but for phone calls, and is expected to work on the Pixel 9 device. Additionally, the Pixel 8 already supports a similar feature, suggesting that the Call Notes feature could be making its way to the Pixel 8 devices as well.

The Pixel 9 series is gearing up for a launch on August 13. A major leak recently revealed everything we need to know about the Pixel 9 series, except for the price. But an earlier leak already revealed the alleged European price.

The vanilla Pixel 9 has also appeared in a leak, showing off the device in all its colors. We also got our first look at alleged official cases for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 series is also rumored to be getting camera upgrades outside of the primary sensor, as well as brighter displays, courtesy of Samsung.
