Ooredoo Qatar addresses root cause of local connectivity outages – Doha News

According to the telecommunications company, the power outage was caused by damage to one of the main lines, caused by public works carried out by a contractor from Ashghal.

Ooredoo Qatar has issued a statement addressing recent local mobile phone service disruptions.

“The power outage was caused by public works carried out by a contractor from Ashghal, who unintentionally damaged one of our main lines,” Ooredoo said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement said the telecommunications company will work closely with the State Communications Authority and Ashghal to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.

Ooredoo also said it will work to ensure its “network infrastructure remains protected”.

Ashghal, also known as the Qatar Public Works Authority, has not yet issued a statement on the matter.

Ooredoo Qatar’s latest statement follows an earlier announcement on Friday, in which the telecom company apologized for the issues some customers experienced when using its mobile phone network.

Observers in Qatar reported on social media that issues ranged from mobile 5G not working to the inability to use the Ooredoo mobile app.

Some users have requested Oooredoo to pay compensation due to the network outage, while others suggested switching to competing telecommunications companies as their service providers.
