Ministry of Defence launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree planting campaign for Independence Day

The Ministry of Defence has announced a large-scale tree plantation drive across the country on Independence Day, August 15. As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, 1.5 lakh saplings will be planted nationwide.

This marks India’s 78th Independence Day. The plantation drive will involve the three services, DRDO, defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik schools and ordnance factories, the ministry said in a statement.

The campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, encourages planting a tree as a tribute to mothers. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently joined in by planting a tree in memory of his mother and urged people to join the initiative to protect nature.
