This fire truck sprays foam to keep the crew safe

The Australian Fire Service has developed a new vehicle that can spray foam directly through the windscreen.

This new technology is a breakthrough in the field of safety and fire fighting.

The innovation is part of the Country Fire Authority’s (CFA) $3.19 million retrofit program for 246 existing ultralight vehicles.

In addition, $4.95 million has been allocated for the purchase of 33 new ultralight vehicles equipped with advanced crew protection systems.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said they had carried out extensive testing in laboratories and on real fires to ensure the new systems to protect people actually work.

“The safety of our firefighters is our highest priority and we are continually looking for enhanced measures to achieve this,” Heffernan said.

The new foam fire fighting vehicles are also aimed at increasing the chance of survival in the event of fire.

All ultralight vehicles will receive new systems including spray foam (CAFS) and heat shield curtains.

These trucks also store fire blankets so you can quickly grab them in an emergency.

A breakthrough in fire fighting

New ways to fight fires are constantly being found.

Just like the impressive flying boat that collects water from the lake to fight fires.

Captain Ian Pinney, of Upper Beaconsfield Fire Brigade, said their ultra-light vehicle was one of the first to receive the new foam system.

“It’s an added protection feature for the occupants of the vehicle. Hopefully we’ll never have to use it, but it’s reassuring to know it’s there,” he said.

Ultralights are particularly suitable for hard-to-reach places due to their light size. This makes them ideal for high-risk areas.

The use of vehicles like these or the DC-10 aircraft that fight forest fires plays a crucial role in saving lives.
