President William Ruto has indicated that the government wants to support Kenyans who leave the country to work abroad.

The head of state said in Taita Taveta on Sunday that 1,000 Kenyans leave the country every week to work abroad.

“I have done my work, I have been looking for jobs abroad. I have planned that those who are going for jobs abroad will get their passports within a week. They don’t even need money for air tickets, we will pay for the flights,” Ruto said.

The President urged lawmakers to organise youth in their constituencies so that they can benefit from jobs abroad.

In a bid to tackle youth unemployment in the country, the head of state has signed agreements with several countries that will see Kenya export its young workforce.

In addition to young people going abroad, Ruto is also keen to create digital jobs where young people can work remotely for companies abroad.

On On May 26, Ruto promised to secure investments and opportunities, including 10,000 foreign jobs for Kenyans.

He said the plan will see 250,000 Kenyans working abroad every year.
