POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Dutchess County ranked sixth in the United States among mid-sized county governments for “best technology practices” in the 2024 Digital Counties Survey conducted by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties, according to an announcement from the Office of the Dutchess County Executive.

Specifically, the survey praised the county’s efforts to “enhance cybersecurity, streamline service delivery, and apply innovative technologies to county priorities,” according to the announcement. Much of this work is being done by the county’s Office of Central and Information Services (OCIS).

The announcement highlighted OCIS’s recent work to restore the county’s operations and services after a technology outage related to Crowdstrike affected millions of Microsoft Windows users, including many Dutchess County government employees.

OCIS also works to improve cybersecurity preparedness across the county by hosting an annual Cyber Security Summit. Last year’s event, held at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, included a discussion on best practices in artificial intelligence and its use by cybercriminals.
