According to public broadcaster ERT, the unfortunate man had finished his work at the Fyli landfill when the accident happened. He was taken to Thriasio Hospital, but succumbed to his serious injuries.

“It is a very difficult day for the Municipality of Athens after the loss of a cleaner’s life while working in Fyli,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas.

Doukas expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and stressed his support for the cleaners “who fight hard every day to keep our city clean.”
