The Sri Lankan women’s cricket team clinched the Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 title on Sunday after beating India by eight wickets at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Kavisha Dilhari smashed a six off Pooja Vastrakar in the penultimate over of the match to guide Sri Lanka to their first continental trophy with eight balls to spare.

Chasing a target of 166, the hosts lost opener Vishmi Gunaratne in the second over on just one for a run out before captain Chamari Athapaththu slammed 61 off 43 balls and forged an 87-run partnership with Harshitha Samarawickrama (69 not out off 51).

Athapaththu’s wicket only fastened Sri Lanka’s win as Dilhari came in and smashed 30 off just 16 to help Sri Lanka secure a famous win.

Earlier, seven-time champions India made 165/6 in the final with Smriti Mandhana scoring 60 off 47 and Richa Ghosh adding 30 off 14. Jemimah Rodrigues made 29.

Dilhari took two wickets.
