A Modesto man was killed Saturday night when he lost control of his Ford Ranger pickup truck and crashed into a tree at 2200 Scenic Drive, police said.

The driver, identified Sunday morning only as a man in his 50s, was traveling west on Scenic Drive, just east of Oakdale Road. The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. at a bend in the road, Lt. Felton Payne said Sunday morning.

Rescue efforts were carried out, but the man died at the scene.
