A 57-year-old MassDOT employee was killed by a vehicle on Route 24 Saturday night.

A vehicle fatally struck a MassDOT worker who was clearing debris along the Route 24 freeway in Bridgewater Saturday night, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said Sunday.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday night on Route 24 heading north, a car struck a MassDOT employee who was working outside his vehicle near Exit 28B, the DA’s office said in a statement. The employee was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

The employee has been identified as David Sousa, 57. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, the Public Prosecution Service said.

The driver who hit Sousa is still at the scene, the statement said.
