Boy Sells Icees for Fairfax County Fire Department – NBC4 Washington

An 8-year-old boy set up an Icee stand in Alexandria, Virginia on Saturday to raise money for the Fairfax County Fire Department.

How he came up with the idea was simple.

“Because they saved my arm, we’re donating to them,” said 8-year-old Everett Eskew.

His stand was a unique way to thank the department for the help they provided him with last year when he broke his arm.

His mother, Angela Hopes-Eskew, said the fire service was “so good” to him and that some firefighters rode with them in the ambulance.

“They even stopped by the hospital to see how he was doing,” Hopes-Eskew said. “He said, ‘Mom, let’s do (the stand) and donate half the money to the fire department.’ And I thought, ‘I think that’s awesome.'”

Eskew, along with his best friend Penny, sold the sweet, cold treats for $2 each at the stand. Some of the first responders showed up to show their support and appreciation.

They raised $281, half of which went to the fire department.
