Cleburne Public Works Workers Get Credit for Saving Girl’s Life

Cleburne Public Works workers Zackery Overmyer and Destiny Shuckers saved a girl’s life after they saw her family panic and realize she was choking.

Two Cleburne city workers saved a girl’s life after they saw a family panicking and went to see if they could help.

Zackery Overmyer and Destiny Shuckers, both Cleburne public works employees, were called to a fallen tree when they saw the family, according to a city news release. Shuckers told Overmyer, who was driving to pull over, and they were told a little girl was choking.

Overmyer, an Army veteran, said in a video released by the city that the parents panicked and did things wrong, like trying to reach into the girl’s mouth. He grabbed the girl from her father, hit her on the back and a piece of candy flew out.

According to the press release, Overmyer’s military training gave him the knowledge to save the girl.

Shuckers said Overmyer doesn’t like to be called a hero, but he is.
