United States Men’s Soccer Team Selection for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris

There is an exciting roster of U.S. men’s players for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Three senior players join a group of promising young players vying for a medal in Paris.

Marko Mitrovic’s under-23 squad is allowed to field three players over the maximum age limit. He has chosen three experienced players from Major League Soccer and the USMNT: midfielder Djordje Mihailovic and central defenders Walker Zimmerman and Miles Robinson.

The central defender duo are an exceptional choice for Mitrovic in more ways than one, who has elite experience to draw on. Zimmerman and Robinson have 72 caps between them. Mihailovic has 11.

The young generation were already primed to challenge without the veterans and are talented from front to back. Chelsea goalkeeper Gaga Slonina will look to further burnish his credentials, while Venezia midfielders Gianluca Busio and Tanner Tessmann are joined by Wolfsburg’s Kevin Paredes to steal the headlines from the veterans.

Can American men win a medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris?

The American men will likely need to pull off a major upset or secure a favorable draw to be considered favorites for a medal in Paris.

France, Spain and Argentina are fantastic teams and are considered big favourites. Japan and Morocco have strong teams.

France’s senior players include Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Alexandre Lacazette, while Michael Olise and Rayan Cherki are both still under 23.

Argentina brings Man City’s Julian Alvarez, former City player Nicolas Otamendi and Ajax goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. Claudio Echeverri and Lucas Beltran are under-23.

Other notable players include Naby Keita from Guinea and Achraf Hakimi and Munir Mohamedi from Morocco.

The Yanks will likely be behind the 8-ball after their opener against hosts France, but they are expected to emerge from Group A above Guinea and New Zealand. The first- or second-place team from Group B (Argentina, Morocco, Iraq, Ukraine) is next. A win there would move them within a win of playing for gold or silver and a guarantee of a bronze medal.
