This fall, forestry crews will be moving into the Angel Rock area to further clean up the area devastated by the fire.

Michael Pearson, district director for the Vancouver Island Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, told the ACRD Transportation Advisory Committee that initial efforts to secure the hill have proven successful.

“We do a hazard tree assessment at least twice a year, so if and when we do have to cut trees, we try to be proactive so we don’t have any unplanned closures,” he said. “We haven’t seen a lot of rocks, we haven’t seen any issues, the work we did to get through this past summer really paid off and worked.”

While provincial highway officials came to Port Alberni to talk about the cleanup efforts around Angel Rock, local leaders wanted to talk about Cathedral Grove.
